2016 will be Vin Scully’s final year behind the microphone for the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the LA Sports Council is honoring him in a unique way on February 25th. Scully will receive the council’s first ever lifetime achievement award for his work with the Dodgers over the past six decades.

“I can’t think of a person more deserving of this recognition,” said Sports Council President David Simon. “Even more remarkable than his longevity is the consistently high quality and integrity his announcing has represented over the years.”

The ceremony will air on either Fox Sports West or Prime Ticket at a to be determined date in the future.

This is truly a fantastic honor for a man whose work is nearly unparalleled not only across the sports world, but across broadcasting as a whole. How many people are tied to one organization, especially in a role as prominent as Scully’s, for as long as he has been?

Hopefully, Dodgers fans across California will be able to hear him in his swan song and the dispute between Nearly Every TV Provider In Southern California and SportsNet LA is resolved before the season begins in April.
