As Vin Scully prepares to call his 67th and final season for the Los Angeles Dodgers, the American treasure has revealed his plans for 2016. He told those in attendance at the Dodgers’ annual FanFest that he doesn’t plan to go outside California unless the team makes the playoffs and he may not call the World Series if the team makes it that far.

Scully has cut back on road trips over the last few seasons first not going East and staying within the National League West. But even more recently, he decided to remain in California choosing to call home games and making selected trips to San Diego and San Francisco as well as calling games in Anaheim against the Angels.

Vin plans to call his final games in San Francisco when the Dodgers play the Giants in the season-ending series at AT&T Park from September 30-October 2, “I think I would love to finish in a game between the Dodgers and Giants. God willing it will work out. We’ll see, but the best-laid plans of mice and men usually go up in smoke.”

In addition to the Bay Area trip at the end of the season, Scully said he will go to San Diego and Anaheim, but not venture outside the Golden State. But as for the postseason, Scully said he will call games, but maybe not the Fall Classic which would be a shame:

“When you get to the playoffs, you are allowed to do radio. We can’t do any television, and I always feel funny when we do have the playoffs because Rick [Monday] and Charley [Steiner] do such a great job all year on radio, and I feel that it’s unfair that I go in and do six of the nine innings,” Scully said. “But maybe, because it is the last year, I would go in and do the playoffs. But I don’t think I would do the World Series. I think folks would say thank you and goodbye.”

Here’s hoping that the team can persuade Scully to change his mind should the Dodgers get all the way to the World Series. What better way to go out than to call the last out of a championship in the final season of a career, but Scully has never thought of himself in that manner.

Here’s hoping he remains in good health for the entire season so we can cherish his final season.
