Troy Aikman must have thought he was watching a Canadian Football League game, because during this afternoon’s Seahawks/Panthers matchup, he was surprised Seattle didn’t kick a field goal, despite facing a third and goal.

Aikman: “I’m really surprised Pete Carroll’s not kicking a field goal here.”

Joe Buck: “It’s third down.”

Aikman “Oh sorry.”

Good thing Caroll didn’t follow Aikman’s suggestion, as Russell Wilson connected with Jermaine Kearse for a touchdown to make it a 10 point game in the fourth quarter. The Seahawks almost completed a comeback down 31-0 after the first half, but Carolina hung on for a 31-24 victory, despite Seattle pressing late.

Aikman immediately apologized for his blunder, but it’s a pretty silly mistake considering his football experience. The most logical explanation is Aikman likely thought it was 4th down and simply was going with what he assumed, otherwise WOOF.
