Nelly

Is it getting hot in here? Ah, it must be from the news that rapper Nelly has joined FS1’s Undisputed as a contributor to talk sports with Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe, and will make his first appearance on the show Nov. 1. This won’t be an everyday role for Nelly, as he’s busy with tours, albums, his other shows (he stars in his own “docu-series” Nellyville on BET, he’s part of Kevin Hart’s “Real Husbands Of Hollywood” reality show parody, also on BET, and he reportedly has inked a development deal with Fox as well, which may help him pay off his alleged million-dollar federal tax lien), and his other interests (he’s a part-owner of the Charlotte Hornets, and is involved with philanthropic causes from Make a Wish to Face Forward), but he will be making recurring appearances on Undisputed. Here’s more from Fox’s release:

SKIP AND SHANNON: UNDISPUTED is getting even hotter. One of the best-selling rap artists of all time, Nelly, joins Skip Bayless, Shannon Sharpe and Joy Taylor on FS1’s newest daily all-sports opinion show on Tuesday, Nov. 1 (9:30 AM ET), discussing the day’s current sports topics. The appearance is the rapper’s first in his new role as a contributor to the show.

“I can’t wait to reunite with my man Nelly,” says Bayless. “Seven years ago he was the first rapper we ever had on my former debate show, and he was a revelation. He can debate sports with the same passion, guts and clever creativity that he writes and performs his classic music. He and I share this: we think we’ve never lost a debate. Nelly was made for UNDISPUTED on FS1.”

“I’m really excited to join FOX Sports and work with Skip, Shannon and Joy to discuss all the sports topics I love,” says Nelly.

Nelly is a Grammy Award-winning rap superstar, entrepreneur, philanthropist, actor and newly recognized Diamond-selling artist known for his Billboard No. 1 hits “Hot in Herre” and “Cruise,” as well as several No. 1 albums. His debut album, “Country Grammar” is only the eighth hip-hop album ever to sell 10-million records. He won Grammy Awards in 2003 and 2004.

The First Take shade there from Bayless (“my former debate show”) is pretty outstanding, and adding recurring appearances from Nelly to Undisputed is certainly noteworthy. We’ll see how well getting Nelly’s hot takes in here goes. But, from this corner, it’s certainly more interesting to see him on this show than, say, infamous sports personalities like Rob Parker.
