Mike Franecsa’s tenure with WFAN will conclude at the end of 2017, according to the Sports Pope himself.
Francesa appeared on Katie Nolan’s Garbage Time podcast this week, and in an excerpt released on Tuesday night, he broke the news that he’d be leaving WFAN when his contract expired at the end of 2017.
On Wednesday’s edition of The Mike Francesa Show, he confirmed that he’d be leaving when his contract expired and expanded a bit upon his comments, noting it had nothing to do with any sore feelings between him and WFAN and that this wasn’t a negotiating ploy.

As Francesa said, two years is a long time – it’s not as if we’re entering the final months of Francesa on air. We’ve still got an Olympics, two World Series, two Stanley Cup Finals, two NBA Finals, and two Super Bowls to run through over the next 23 months.
In an interesting aside, Francesa also noted that leaving WFAN might not be the end of his broadcasting career, and that he could take his show on the road at times in 2017. He didn’t note who his replacement would be.
And in some news that affects Francesa and his listeners in the short-term, he also confirmed that this weekend’s Francesa Con event will go on no matter what happens with the weather, and that Christopher “Mad Dog” Russo *will* be in attendance.
