The Kevin Durant free agency sweepstakes looks like it’s going to come to a conclusion today.  Over the weekend, Durant met with several NBA teams to listen to their various free agent pitches and will reportedly make his decision today on July 4th.  Many believe Durant will announce his decision to the world through an article on The Players Tribune.

Durant’s Players Tribune announcement would be quite fitting since he was serving as DEPUTY PUBLISHER for the online outlet.  But it’s a bit risky to post on the 4th of July.  Like, shouldn’t he at least wait until Tuesday?  For starters, web traffic absolutely sucks on a holiday.  In fact, there’s probably NOBODY reading this article right now. I could go on a rant about Australian Rules Football or why racquetball should be an Olympic sport and nobody would even notice.  Second of all, how many of these athletes are going to actually be around to edit and publish Durant’s article?  I’m sure Derek Jeter is waiting with his e-mail inbox open to see when Durant tells him he has his first draft saved on July 4th…

Until that happens though, NBA reporters all around the country are trying to piece together whatever morsels from the process they can get to give insights into Durant’s thinking.  We’ve heard it’s down to the Warriors and Thunder.  But we’ve also heard the Celtics aren’t out of it. And don’t forget about the Heat too.  We’ve also seen Chris Broussard’s Sources be well late reporting information that was already out there.

And what’s this… is that Adam Schefter’s music?!?!?!

Yup, that’s ESPN NFL reporter Adam Schefter breaking news about Kevin Durant’s free agency.  How do you think Broussard and Marc Stein and Brian Windhorst and all the other ESPN NBA reporters feel about Schefter coming on to their turf like that?

Now all we need is Adrian Wojnarowski to start reporting some NFL news and we can finally have the dream Battle of the Insiders matchup between the top two newsbreakers in the industry.
