The United States Women’s National Team faces Colombia in their third match of the Rio Olympics on Tuesday night.

According to the US Soccer Twitter account, the USWNT have a new player for the match – USMNT striker Clint Dempsey!

Oh, alright. That makes sense.

In case you’re curious if this is in the spirit of the “one nation, one team” mantra, US Soccer also slipped half of the men’s team into the promo for the USWNT-New Zealand match last Wednesday. They didn’t tweet out an original graphic for the France match on Saturday.

And in case you’re curious, there were no women in the USMNT promo tweets during the Copa America. Also, the hashtag was only #OneNation and not #OneNationOneTeam.

Naturally, the internet isn’t too pleased with US Soccer.

I get it. There’s a separate account for the USWNT, and the US Soccer Twitter account bills itself as “U.S. Soccer’s official feed for the #USMNT”.

But it’s still a bad look, especially considering that the USWNT has been vastly more successful than the USMNT historically and that the USWNT is clashing with US Soccer over their inferior treatment to the men’s team.

Is it really too much to just let the USWNT stand alone on their own? Apparently so.
