Colin Cowherd’s bizarre vendetta/grudge/obsession with John Wall is one of the more ridiculous things that has ever transpired in modern sports media.

But now, finally, after years of tearing down Wall at every opportunity, it took another former ESPN personality (Bill Simmons) to finally talk Cowherd into saying the words we never thought we would hear.

“I apologize right now to John Wall.”

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here’s the video evidence from Simmons’ appearance on Cowherd’s FS1 program today and this landmark moment in the history of media…

Give Simmons all the credit in the word for actually following through on his promise to talk to Cowherd about Wall and try to talk him off the ledge.

Also, here’s the brilliant reaction of Cowherd co-host Kristine Leahy, which really says it all.  It’s a reaction of complete shock that Cowherd would actually apologize to Wall after six years of stubborn nonsense.

We can’t let Cowherd off the hook too easily for this apology, though… because even though it’s something that is loooooooooooooooong overdue and a gift from the hot take gods, it’s also a bit hypocritical.

Why?

Because two years ago, Cowherd authoritatively declared he would “never back down” from his criticism of Wall.  Today, he did.

I don’t know about you though, but I’ll consider Cowherd actually displaying human characteristics of contrition and humility to be progress for the time being.  At least until he rips Wall again when he’s debating Jason Whitlock.
