There are few things more obnoxious to me on Twitter than detailed play by play of exhibition games.  I react much like Jonah Keri does whenever there’s an impromptu concert on an airplane.  It takes a special kind of perseverance to not click the unfollow button when someone is flooding your timeline with frantic updates from a game that doesn’t count.  With that said, the Yankees should be applauded for not going overboard yesterday with updates from their Spring Training game with the Red Sox.

But there was one update that you would expect them to deliver that was curiously absent.

Alex Rodriguez just happened to hit his first home run of the spring on Wednesday.  And the Yankees never mentioned it.

I know what you’re thinking, perhaps that’s just the team not bothering us with breathless play by play from Spring Training.  Buuuuut isn’t it just a little suspicious that they made time to tweet about a homerun from pinstriped immortal Slade Heathcott and a strikeout from pitcher Dellin Betances?

And in the recap they chose to highlight RBIs from Jacoby Ellsbury and Carlos Beltran.

It’s almost like the Yankees are giving the impression that A-Rod doesn’t exist.  Not that the franchise would like to see A-Rod vanish from existence in real life or anything.  Adding to the intrigue?  The New York Daily News went back through the Yankees timeline and found that A-Rod hasn’t been mentioned beyond a daily lineup card all spring.  And how about this, the NYDN reports the Yankees don’t even control the account in-house, it’s operated out of MLB Advanced Media.  That wouldn’t necessarily be a surprise – remember when a Rangers tweet mysteriously appeared on the Blue Jays timeline?

Grand conspiracy or someone who works in MLBAM’s central office just isn’t a Yankees fan?  It’ll be just another fun plotpoint to watch unfold in As A-Rod Turns throughout the season.
