The 2015 World Series continued its hot start, as Wednesday night’s Game 2 drew a strong 9.3 overnight, barely besting the 9.1 overnight drawn by the Republican presidential debate on CNBC.

Game 1 on Tuesday drew a 10.5 overnight, the highest for a Game 1 since 2009’s Yankees-Phillies matchup. It finished with 14.94 million viewers, the best mark for a Game 1 since 2010’s Giants-Rangers matchup drew 15.01 million viewers.

But let’s get back to Game 2. The 9.3 overnight is up 6% from Game 2’s overnight from 2014 (8.8), and the 10.0 two game average is up 19% from 2013. It’s also the best two game average since that aforementioned 2010 series.

What will really determine how well this series does is how Games 3 and 4 shake out. The Royals have a 2-0 lead, and a sweep is a definite possibility. If the Mets lose Game 3 on Friday, will the New York market tune out? If the Mets can make this a competitive series, besting every World Series in average viewership since 2009 seems like a lock, but a shorter series could prevent the series from reaching those lofty heights.
