LOS ANGELES, CA – JANUARY 13: Kobe Bryant #24 of the Los Angeles Lakers reacts as he runs off the court after missing his three point attempt to tie the score as time ran out in the game against the Miami Heat at Staples Center on January 13, 2015 in Los Angeles, California. ESPN posted this cool piece of nostalgia earlier today – one of the great individual sporting performances of our lifetime as called by the late Stuart Scott.

That performance is of course Kobe Bryant’s 81 point game against the Toronto Raptors on January 22nd, 2006 and is noteworthy today because of Bryant announcing his retirement on The Players’ Tribune.

The box score of that game is insane.  Bryant was 28-46 from the field, 7-13 from three, and 18-20 from the free throw line.  And maybe the most surprising stat?  TWO assists! The highlights, though, are even more extraordinary, especially as called by one of the trademark voices of SportsCenter.

Scott passed away earlier this year in January, but his memory and legacy live on as the soundtrack to legendary performances like this one.
