Current Detroit Tigers broadcaster, former Arizona Diamondbacks manager, and all-time Tigers great Kirk Gibson is battling Parkinsons disease. The news was announced on Tuesday in a statement by Fox Sports Detroit. Here’s a quote from Gibson in the statement.

“I have faced many different obstacles in my life, and have always maintained a strong belief that no matter the circumstances, I could overcome those obstacles. While this diagnosis poses a new kind of challenge for me, I intend to stay true to my beliefs. With the support of my family and friends, I will meet this challenge with the same determination and unwavering intensity that I have displayed in all of my endeavors in life. I look forward to being back at the ballpark as soon as possible.”

The Tigers also released a statement about Gibson and his health.

“The Detroit Tigers family wishes the best for Kirk Gibson, and our thoughts are with Kirk and his family. We are all hopeful for Kirk’s return to the ballpark soon.”

Gibson appeared on the Fox Sports Detroit broadcast on Opening Day this year, but hasn’t been in the booth since.

Tigers announcers Rod Allen and Mario Impemba talked about their colleague’s diagnosis on Tuesday.

Hopefully, Gibson will be back in the booth this season for the Tigers. Everyone’s rooting for his short and long-term health in this situation.
