Mike Francesa ma

The Yankees bowed out of the postseason after a Wild Card Game loss to the Houston Astros.  This led New York sports radio icon Mike Francesa and sad Yankees fans down quite the path together.

With callers feeling like the Yankees weren’t really part of the postseason this year, Francesa defended the team saying they made the playoffs.  He did so because the Yankees have won a World Series after winning the Wild Card.  He repeated it multiple times and even used it to force a caller to agreeing with him.

Just one problem – it never happened.  The Yankees have never achieved that feat.  That led to the best Francesa correction since the days of Al Alburquerque.  Video maestro @RNs_Funhouse walks us through:

Oh, so the Yankees have never won the Wild Card and the World Series.  Huh… I thought we were talking about Alberto Alburquerque.

The funny thing about this clip is that Francesa could have figured out his mistake if he would have just taken a few seconds to check out Wikipedia.  It literally took me 11 seconds to find and locate this list, showing that all five of the Yankees’ World Series victories in the Wild Card era came after winning the division.

But clearly, Mike Francesa has no use or need for Wikipedia or Baseball Reference or anything like that, he’s the pope after all!  The KING!  I can’t wait to see what kinds of Mets facts Francesa dishes out through the rest of October.
