Yes, the New England Patriots are the most-hated team in America right now, but when you get an opportunity to go under the hood so to speak, you take the ball and run with it. NFL Films spent the 2014 season with the Pats coaching staff and caught lightning in a bottle when the team made its run to Super Bowl XLIX.
The documentary, “Do Your Job: Bill Belichick and the 2014 Patriots,” will premiere the day before the season-opener when the Patriots unveil their championship banner and begin the 2015 campaign. There will be interviews with Belichick, Pats owner Robert Kraft and the entire coaching staff. It’s an unprecedented look at an organization that has criticized for its secrecy and for not revealing much to the media.
Here’s a trailer for the documentary which will air on Wednesday, September 9 at 8 p.m. ET. The play discussed is the Malcolm Butler interception that saved the championships for the Patriots. Included in the trailer are Belichick, defensive coordinator Matt Patricia, linebackers coach Patrick Graham, defensive line coach Brendan Daly, defensive backs coach Josh Boyer and Director of Football Research Ernie Adams:
One of the interesting things about Belichick is that he rarely makes his assistant coaches available to the media and unless there’s a required availability like during the Super Bowl, we don’t hear from them at all, but in “Do Your Job,” various coaches and coordinators whom you saw in the trailer were interviewed for this new documentary.
We don’t know if there’s any mention of Deflategate, but if NFL Films was there to document the entire season, then there has to be at least something on it during the film.
The reason behind the title of “Do Your Job” is that it’s Belichick’s instructions to his players throughout the years.
And the Patriots edition of “America’s Game,” the annual look at the Super Bowl Champions will air on NFL Network, Tuesday, September 8 at 10 p.m. ET.
If the trailer is any indication, this should be another great behind-the-scenes look from NFL Films.
