NBC Sports Premier League analyst, and former Chelsea and Blackburn defender, Graeme Le Saux added a new title to his resume over the weekend – hero. Le Saux saved a couple from their burning camper on Sunday, saving their lives before the camper was burned to the ground.

Some of the details from the situation are terrifying. Le Saux’s wife explained what happened to GetSurrey.co.uk.

“My husband said he would go and see if they were alright, as we could see smoke coming from the side door [of the camper van].

“He said that the wife was concerned and told her husband to come away.

“At this point Graeme asked if there was any gas on board, and the husband said yes, as well as petrol. He then said that they had to move straight away, in case the gas exploded.

“My husband and son stayed with them. I have never seen something go up so quickly. You could just see this inferno.

“My husband and son were stopping traffic as the fire crews had not yet arrived.

“It went from a motorhome to ashes in around 25 minutes.

Another witness also talked about what Le Saux and his son did.

“They helped to guide traffic away and repeatedly asked people not to go anywhere near the burning vehicle, concerned about both the ferocity of the fire and the fact that the vehicle had a gas canister on board. There were several explosions.

“Nothing could be done. By the time the fire brigade arrived there was nothing left to save. It was just a case of stand back and keep safe.”

On Twitter, Le Saux didn’t talk much about the incident, but was modest about the situation.

Well done, Graeme – if only more people could act like this during the offseason.
