If you’re a Roku or Apple TV user that’s been patiently waiting for NBC Sports Live Extra to show up on your dashboard, wait no longer – as of Monday, Live Extra is available on both platforms. The available content is predictably robust, including live streams of sports content on NBC, NBCSN, and Golf Channel, along with coverage of the Stanley Cup Playoffs and Premier League that can float over to other NBC networks.

Of course, you still need a cable subscription to use Live Extra on Roku or Apple TV, and you’ll need to authenticate the subscription the first time you use the app.

There’s also plenty of other video content available, including Premier League highlights, analysis, and interviews, older studio shows, and some replays of recent games.

It’s good that NBC was able to get the apps rolled out before the beginning of the next round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Now fans can avoid playing “guess the network” and just watch the game through the app on their TV. I’m a little disappointed that Live Extra didn’t join the Roku/Apple TV family until this later in the Premier League season, but at least we can go into the 2015-16 season knowing that the app is there.

All in all, this is great news. Getting more people connected to the app through more outlets can only be a positive development.
