<> during the eighth inning at Fenway Park on July 11, 2015 in Boston, Massachusetts. The Boston Red Sox defeat the New York Yankees 5-3.

Fox Sports got some MLB ratings momentum heading into the All-Star break last Saturday. It received the highest ratings for its baseball package in two years. Steered by the New York Yankees at Boston Red Sox game that was sent out to most of the country, Fox averaged a 1.9 rating and 2.9 million viewers.

That’s the highest audience for Fox Saturday Baseball this season and it’s the 2nd highest viewership for a nationally-televised MLB game in 2015, below ESPN’s 3.4 million for the St. Louis-Chicago Cubs opening night game.

This marked the first time this season that Fox has picked up a Yankees-Red Sox game. In its two contests last year, Fox had a primetime contest which drew similar numbers as last Saturday and an afternoon game late in the season which pulled just over 1 million viewers.

Sports Media Watch points out that even with the higher viewership, Fox Saturday Baseball is averaging below a 2.0 rating for the 28th straight week.

Many of you tell us that you’re sick of Yankees-Red Sox on television and the best way to keep them off your television is not to watch, but based on these latest numbers, Fox will continue to put them on. The season’s best viewership is another incentive for Fox to schedule them in primetime again in 2016.
