We’ve heard of PA announcers, organists or in some rare cases, radio announcers being thrown out of games for their comments or songs that they have played (“Three Blind Mice,” et. al.). There was even the Nebraska PA situation which we chronicled not just once, but twice back in August.

The most recent case was on Friday in Mississippi when a high school football announcer was tossed by the officials. It wasn’t for a song, but what was actually said on the mic. David Kelly who does the PA for D’iberville High School wasn’t just asked to leave the press box, but the actual premises!

D’iberville was playing George County when a sideline interference call negated a 99 yard pick-6 for the Warriors:

Charles Evans at Fansided chronicled what led to the referees’ decision to throw Kelly out of the game:

According to an eyewitnesses at the game Mrs. Julie Russell the announcer, David Kelly, made the comment “see George County you aren’t the only ones who get bad calls.”

That’s when the referees already sensitive to complaints about the call took action against Kelly and ordered him to leave. You might think it’s extreme, but with officials hearing it from all sides, it doesn’t take much for them to look upward and toss the PA announcer from the game. But having him leave the actual premises is a bit much.
