LeBron James has an auxiliary role in Amy Schumer’s new smash comedy Trainwreck and it looks like that’s only the beginning of a burgeoning film career.  James has come to terms on a wide-ranging deal with Warner Brothers that will see him and his production company SpringHill Entertainment (yes, in case you didn’t know, LeBron James has his own production company) take on a much larger role in Hollywood.

Details via the Wall Street Journal:

The deal pairs the world’s No. 1 basketball star with the largest television and movie studio, based in Burbank, Calif. For Mr. James, the agreement will provide him with a home to build on his entertainment aspirations and the backing of a media giant with global reach.

“To be able to partner with Warner Bros. will allow me to do some things I’ve always dreamed of,” said Mr. James, a longtime TV and movie buff who said he used to fantasize about being Batman.

Warner Bros. will have an alliance with SpringHill Entertainment, the production company Mr. James co-founded with his business partner Maverick Carter in 2013. SpringHill, which already produces television shows, had been shopping for a studio partnership for several months and talks with Warner Bros. heated up in the spring.

LeBron James as Batman?  I guess it can’t be worse than Ben Affleck, right?

Of course, everyone’s first thoughts when this deal was announced turned to James potentially following in Michael Jordan’s footsteps and starring in a Space Jam sequel.  The talk surrounding the existence of a Space Jam 2 has been going on for years, even before James returned to Cleveland.  And while the deal with Warner Brothers is no guarantee that it will happen, the fact that James has basically linked his entertainment career with the company is a huge sign it’s closer to happening than ever before.

Me?  I would rather see LBJ bring back Animaniacs.  I loved that show.  Can you imagine LeBron James singing the countries of the world?
