It’s always interesting to see what happens when media votes are revealed for end-of-season awards. While everyone is entitled to their own opinions, there’s usually one or two outliers that really make you scratch your head.
This year, that ballot belongs to Knicks radio announcer Mike Crispino. He was the only MVP voter out of 130 to not have eventual winner Steph Curry in his Top 3. In fact, Crispino went a step further than that, though. He put Curry 5th on his ballot behind James Harden, Russell Westbrook, LeBron James… and Marc Gasol?!?
Only voter w/o Curry in top 3 is MIke Crispino (Knicks radio PBP). Had him 5th behind Harden, Westbrook, LBJ, Marc Gasol (Gasol's only vote)

Here’s the entire database so you can see it for yourself. Crispino’s vote was also an outlier in the respect that it was the only ballot to have Gasol at any position. Gasol had a fine season with 17/8… but let’s be real – he was 24th in the league in scoring and 28th in rebounds. Nikola Vucevic must feel like he got robbed.
There’s a couple of reasons why this vote might make some sense. For starters, the Knicks have been rumored to be making a play for Gasol as a free agent. I’m not sure just how much a 4th placed MVP vote might sway the big man, but it can’t hurt… right?
And then there’s just the reality that anyone who has had to suffer through the Knicks this season probably isn’t the best judge of what constitutes great basketball.
