The 2022 World Cup scheduled to be held in Qatar has received plenty of scorn for a variety of reasons. One of those reasons has been the plethora of alleged human rights abuses in the country, with hundreds of migrant workers reportedly dying while working on the stadiums being built to host the World Cup games.
And while there has deservedly been much backlash towards Qatar from the western world as a result, the negative feelings don’t extend to *every* English speaking commentator. Former Sky Sports broadcaster Richard Keys, who resigned in 2011 after making misogynistic comments, thinks all of the data about migrant worker death is inaccurate and there’s nothing to see here, folks. That’s in spite of multiple international organizations publishing detailed reports on abuses and deaths of migrant workers.
Oh, and by the way – Keys now works for the Qatari-owned beIN Sports. No conflict there whatsoever! Check out some of these shameless tweets, via 101 Great Goals…
I know you like accuracy @ColinMurray. Been doing some checking. 3500 workers on 5 stadia sites 6 million hrs worked – no fatalities.

@KewRose Accurate statistics from people who have to keep record of these things.

“What’s your source?”
“People”
@RobGilbz What do you need to know? I have never witnessed a problem. There's plenty of diversity here. I know. I live here.

“I’ve never seen something, so it doesn’t exist”
@Dubaipresh Thats correct. A lot of people are making a lot of noise on a subject they know nothing about. I live here. I know.

“You’re not here. You can’t comment”
Just read this, it's just mindblowing. pic.twitter.com/x23hlYpotk

“Well yes, there HAVE BEEN deaths, but it’s not Qatar’s fault!”
This is astounding. Dispute reporting, cite no specific sources, create strawman arguments. Now that’s what makes a good commentator!
