On Tuesday, the National Academy of Television and Sciences quietly announced the nominations for sports television over the past year. The ESPN Family of networks led all sports groups with a combined 57 nominations. NBC Sports Group was second with 42. Fox Sports Media Group was third having 26 nominations while CBS and Turner Sports were tied with 18.
As far as networks were concerned, ESPN led the way with 37 nominations with NBC followed with 33. MLB Network was third with 16, ESPN2 had 15 nominations, Fox came in fifth with 14 and sister network Fox Sports 1 had 13.
The program that had the most nominations was the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi with 15, E:60, Fox Sports Live and SportsCenter were next with seven each. The FIFA World Cup in Brazil had 6 nominations while the MLB on TBS Postseason and Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel were tied with five.
Some of the usual suspects like Bob Costas, Sunday Night Football, Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel and E:60 saw their regular nods. However, some new names like Ian Eagle, SEC Network, Rich Neuheisel and Dan Hicks received nominations this year.
Stuart Scott was also nominated as a studio host.
