Some of you may have watched Deion’s Family Playbook which featured his charter school, Prime Prep Academy. Well, on Friday the school’s campuses in Dallas and in Fort Worth were shut down due to lack of finances. According to the Dallas Morning News, the school had $60,000 in the bank, but was in debt over $700,000 and hadn’t paid its staff in a month.

The Texas Education Agency oversees the school and an agency official noted that Prime Prep’s finances were among the worst he had seen at a charter school.

Sanders was seen on his show telling parents that the school would survive and said the state would not revoke its charter. Instead, the school closed leaving students in the lurch and parents searching for new schools.

Primetime reacted on Twitter:

Students were informed about the closure by letter while some parents learned about it via social media. But with the situation, some parents and students still support Sanders.

But the Texas Education Agency will investigate the school’s collapse and look into why the academy’s finances were in such arrears.

In the meantime, the school’s students are searching for new schools to attend and hope they can find ways to further education with minimal interruption.

Sanders is in Arizona to cover the Super Bowl for NFL Network.
