Bleacher Report just celebrated a daily traffic record this week with over 8 million visitors.  Since its acquisition by Turner Sports, the site has added a number of former mainstream media writers and bolstered its coverage across the board.  B/R has even launched their own radio network on SiriusXM.  Once the scorn of the internet for their SEO tactics and constant slideshows, it’s fair to say that Bleacher Report is a legitimate major player in the sports media world by almost every metric.  In December it was the #2 standalone sports website in the influential comscore rankings.

But all that growth doesn’t mean the site is finished with its ongoing transformation into becoming a sports media mogul.

Multiple sources have told Awful Announcing that a significant change is in the process of occurring at Bleacher Report with several NFL writers either being reassigned or perhaps even discontinuing with the company at the end of their contracts or within the next year.  Bleacher Report has a number of national lead writers and also writers assigned to each NFL division.  The future of that divisional coverage appears to be up in the air at the moment.  It appears to be a very fluid situation with what B/R’s NFL coverage will look like in 2015 beyond the top-line writers.

Although little has been said publicly, injury expert Will Carroll sent this cryptic tweet on Thursday hinting at his release.

However, these reassignments and perhaps letting some talent go does not indicate that Bleacher Report is making financial cuts across the board according to the same sources.  Instead, it’s expected that Bleacher Report will be focusing more on video efforts like Team Stream Now and allocating even more resources to drawing top level writing talent.  In just the past couple years, Bleacher Report has added Mike Freeman, Howard Beck, Kevin Ding, Lars Anderson, and several others from mainstream outlets.  And with the likes of Matt Miller, Matt Bowen, Mike Tanier, and Dan Pompei, there is certainly an impressive array of top flight NFL talent currently on display.

Time will tell how exactly the site continues to evolve in the coming months as it continues its rise.  We’ll present more information as it becomes available.
