Whenever Bill Walton steps into the broadcast booth, it’s appointment television. And with the regular season winding down, we better enjoy the last few pit stops on the long strange trip that has been the 2014-2015 college basketball season. Last night the journey took us to the redhead’s old stomping grounds of UCLA for a matchup with Washington. At a timeout, Walton did the most logical thing possible – broke the game down if it were an actual fight between bears and huskies.
Out of all the things Walton has said, it was finally this that caused Dave Pasch to utter, “what are you talking about?”
I’d really like to see Walton do this during a Stanford-Oregon State game to hear his thoughts on the eternal struggle between beavers and trees. As a bonus, we got a history lesson on bears in California.
Bill’s right – let’s replace every TV timeout in every college basketball game with a random history lesson from Bill Walton. That’s one way to make college basketball more watchable.
