Last Friday, Gawker’s TKTK site published an article wondering if ESPN’s Bill Simmons, formerly known as the Boston Sports Guy, would be returning to Massachusetts. Citing a source, TKTK said Simmons was considering a move back to the East Coast:

“so a coworker of mine was sitting next to simmons’ table at a restaurant last night and he was loudly holding court w/bros on how “i’m toying with the idea of moving back to boston” and how “i could own that city if i was there!” something something about not having the same power in l.a.”

Simmons who unabashedly roots for the Boston Celtics, Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots has been a West Coast resident since 2002 when he became a writer for Jimmy Kimmel Live. He’s used his West Coast base to become a power broker at ESPN eventually producing the 30 for 30 series and running the Grantland site.

And while there’s been rampant speculation on where Simmons could go as his contract with the Worldwide Leader expires this year, there’s one thing that’s apparently for sure. He’s not going back East at least for now.

So Simmons joins displaced Bostonians like Ben Affleck, Matt Damon and others who have adopted the West Coast as their permanent home and aren’t going back East. Now that this has been settled, we will now speculate on where Simmons will go should he decide to leave ESPN.
