NBCSN was facing a daunting challenge heading into 2015 after setting network records for total day and primetime viewership in 2014 which were fueled by the Sochi Olympics. Without an event as large as the Olympics to drive ratings, it seemed rather unlikely that NBCN would be able to improve on their numbers. As the title of this article already informed, the network enjoyed a record year in 2015 and managed to beat out their 2014.

NBCSN’s average total day viewership of 151,000 (which is measured between 6am and 6pm) in 2015 will be their highest ever and will topple 2014’s mark by 6%. Their primetime viewership (measured between 8pm and 11) will also be their best ever and surpass 2014’s mark by 24%.

What fueled NBCSN’s big year? A little bit of everything.

NASCAR debuted on the network. The NHL playoffs delivered their largest ratings ever with NBCSN. So too did the Premier League, IndyCar and Formula One.

It’s early and difficult to forecast how 2016 will play out, but NBCSN has a lot to be optimistic about. In addition to big NHL events, NASCAR, horse racing and the Tour De France, the 2016 Rio Olympic Games in August should do a lot to once again push the needle as far as ratings are concerned.

Don’t be surprised if you see an article similar to this one in December next year.
