It’s easy to poke fun at the self-glorifying, celebrity-worshipping nature of the ESPYs, but the night has produced its fair share of inspirational moments over the years. Two more of those moments came in the form of speeches delivered by Michael Sam accepting the Arthur Ashe Courage Award and Stuart Scott accepting the Jimmy V Perseverance Award.
Scott’s speech in particular was moving as the longtime SportsCenter anchor spoke about his seven year fight with cancer. He referenced the inspiration that Jim Valvano’s original speech has given him and the teamwork in his life to continue ongoing battle against cancer. It’s incredibly forthright and inspirational.
