It will surely go down as the most historic 7th Round draft pick in NFL history.  Michael Sam’s long wait finally ended late in Round 7 as the St. Louis Rams selected him with the 249th pick.

After it was initially reported that Sam had rejected the advances of ESPN and NFL Network to have a camera present for the draft, ESPN announced Saturday morning that they would indeed be filming Sam if he got the call.  The decision is interesting considering ESPN was one of the outlets chosen by Sam and his camp to come out to in a televised interview.  Clearly Sam trusted ESPN enough to be there for the moment in case he was drafted.

Thank goodness they did, because Sam receiving a phone call from Jeff Fisher and then breaking down in tears will be a moment that is replayed not just for years, but for decades to come.  A truly powerful, unique moment in sports.
