Jeff Francoeur has had a 10 year career in Major League Baseball. He’s played for five teams over that span, won a Gold Glove in 2007 and played in the 2010 World Series when he was with the Texas Rangers. Francoeur is currently on the Triple A level playing for San Diego’s El Paso affiliate.

His teammates indoctrinated the man known as “Frenchy” by playing a month-long prank. The members of the El Paso Chihuahuas convinced Francoeur that pitcher Jorge Reyes was deaf when in fact he is not. Reyes played along and remained in character for most of the time except for some instances on the mound which Francoeur failed to pick up.

Chihuahua utilityman Cody Decker made a hilarious video called “On Jeff Ears” chronicling the prank. The best moments come when Reyes, Decker and pitcher Kevin Quackenbush talk about continuing the deceit during a night out at a local restaurant and then the whole joke is revealed to Franceour.

Check out the video.

For his part, Decker made this “apology”:

Truly one of the better moments to come from the young 2014 baseball season.
