10) Who’s holding Mike Carey hostage off-screen?

Hopes were high for former ref turned rules analyst Mike Carey in becoming the next Mike Pereira for CBS.  And then he ended up being the NFL’s version of Chuck Giampa.

9) Aussie sportscast goes off the rails

As we said back in August, in Aussie football slang, this is the sportscast equivalent of taking a falcon… except much more painful to witness.

8) Aussie radio host crashes car during interview

We stay down under for our #8 clip where Australian golfer and radio host Mark Allen took the idea of the broadcast blooper to the next level – by wrecking his own car. Now that’s commitment to the cause.

7) Charles Barkley tries to pronounce Jonas Valanciunas

You may see this as Charles Barkley trying to pronounce a Lithuanian name.  I see it as a break of the space-time continuum.

*** BONUS CLIP***

Congrats to the great Charles Barkley for making it onto our Top Broadcast Bloopers of 2014 twice!  Who knew Mike Francesa was such an influence on Sir Charles?

6) “I’m Kirk Herbstreit along with Brent Musburger”

I still stand by the belief that Brent Musburger should still be ESPN’s top college football play by play guy… even if he forgets who he is every now and again.

5) R.I.P. Paul Cicala

I love this clip way too much.  Arizona sportscaster Paul Cicala is really excited for the Pac 12 title game.  So excited that he runs towards the arena in an exhibition of child-like joy.  As he runs into the distance, he trips and falls on the concrete.  It’s not how many times you fall though… it’s how many times you fall on camera and have it go viral.

4) So this is what a social media reporter does…

Deanna Kay served as the social media reporter for the ESPYs.  Lest you think that it shouldn’t be that difficult to read tweets on live television… well… you might be surprised.  Let’s just say the Boom Goes the Dynamite guy cringed at this video.  Hashtag ESPYs!!  So much fun!!

3) Cup of Tea: 1, Phil Simms: 0

This man is a Super Bowl winning quarterback and was once named MVP of the National Football League.

2) “AND THE PUNT IS BLOCKED!”

Chris Berman was in the middle of adding some sobering perspective on the NFL’s off-field troubles in the first week of the season, and then the Chargers had to go and block a punt.  While we missed out on Boomer’s deep thoughts, we were granted one of the best memes of the year.

1) “Technology and stuff”

God bless Rikk Wilde, Chevrolet Regional Zone Manager, for giving us the gift of laughter.  Wilde immediately made us forget about Game 7 of the World Series and Madison Bumgarner’s legendary performance and wonder how Chris Farley came back to life in one of the great blooper reel moments of all-time.”Technology and stuff” is now etched into the fabric of American society alongside legendary sayings like “one small step for man” and “where’s the beef.” I can think of no more fitting end to the Bud Selig era.
