Tim Tebow's television career is showing no signs of slowing down. New ESPN analyst Tim Tebow will cross over to ABC News' Good Morning America, co-hosting the morning show Friday with the GMA anchor team, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Tebow, who had been a favorite topic at Disney-owned ESPN during his final tumultuous seasons in the NFL, landed a job at ESPN in December. GMA has used guest hosts in the past, most prominently during anchor Robin Roberts' medical absence when Stephen Colbert, the cast of Modern Family and Oprah Winfrey were among those who filled in.
So having Tebow, the Denver Broncos quarterback before the team signed Peyton Manning, in the studio in the run-up to the Super Bowl is an obvious bit of stunt casting. (New York Giants QB Eli Manning will be in the studio on Wednesday.)
For all the hype and consternation over Tim Tebow: Footbal Analyst, he did very well in his debut for ESPN on the various platforms of the BCS Megacast. He was engaging, down-to-earth, and knowledgable about the game and you can't ask for much more from an analyst than that. It was refreshing to actually see Tim Tebow as a person instead of a pinata to be batted back and forth on television and the internet.
As far as the morning show gig goes, the cheery atmosphere of morning daytime television is a great spot for Tebow. He can smile on GMA and talk about how excited he is for the big game and middle America can fall in love with him all over again. It speaks to Tebow's celebrity status within ESPN and Disney already – this is not an opportunity that's going to come to Tim Hasselbeck or even Trent Dilfer.
As long as that restraining order against Skip Bayless is still valid, it looks like Tebow has a decent future ahead of him in front of the cameras.
