The ongoing situation with Aldon Smith is sad. Over the last two plus years, he’s been arrested for DUI twice, been stabbed at his house, entered rehab, and most recently, been arrested after an incident with the TSA at LAX. There’s really no need for any more dirt to be piled onto him, yet that’s exactly what the Green Bay Packers have done this week.

On Thursday, the Packers posted a link to a mailbag on their website with an image of Smith featured in regards to character concerns. The article has since been changed, but a cached version is here. The Packers also sent out a now-deleted tweet featuring Smith to promote the mailbag column, as screengrabbed by Bleacher Report.

The whole situation is incredibly bizarre. It almost seems like the Packers are trying to play the moral superiority game against the 49ers, trying to take something out of them getting beaten by San Francisco in the Playoffs in each of the last two years. That’s not a wise game to play, as pointed out by Bleacher Report’s Matt Miller.

Off the field incidents take place with NFL players on a seemingly daily basis, and throwing shade at one player having issues on a rival isn’t a good look. Those in glass houses should not throw stones, Packers.
