Last month NFL Network analyst and Pro Bowl safety Darren Sharper was arrested on rape charges in Los Angeles. Sharper had been accused of multiple sexual assualts in California and is also under investigation for a sexual assault allegation in Louisiana. Immediately, Sharper was suspended indefinitely by NFL Network and his bio page was removed from their website.
More details have emerged today thanks to a filing from the DA in Los Angeles and the details are incredibly disturbing.
Sharper is accused of taking two women to his Los Angeles hotel room after picking them up at a nightclub, drugging them, and then raping them after they had passed out. Furthermore, it's accused that Sharper did this on two separate occasions – once in October of last year, and once in January. From the New Orleans Times-Picayune:
L.A. prosecutors allege Sharper met two women at a West Hollywood nightclub on Oct. 30, 2013 and invited them to another party. On the way, Sharper told the women he had to stop by his hotel room to pick up something and invited both women up to his room, according to the allegations.
There, he gave each woman a shot, and both women subsequently passed out, prosecutors say. One woman told investigators she woke up naked hours later with Sharper sexually assaulting her. The second woman then woke up and "interrupted his actions," according to prosecutors.
On Jan. 14, Sharper met two separate woman at the same West Hollywood nightclub and invited them to a party. Stopping at his hotel, he invited both up to his room, offered them a shot and each passed out, prosecutors allege.
When they woke up hours later the next day, one of the women told authorities she believed she had been sexually assaulted. Both women left the hotel and sought medical treatment, authorities said.
Officials are asking that Sharper's bail be set at $100 million because he is also suspected of raping women in Arizona, Nevada, and Louisiana. He's being charged with two counts of rape by drugs and facing five charges dealing with furnishing and possession of a controlled substance. All are felonies. An already hideous story just got a lot worse.
