The NFL’s preseason is a subject of little debate, because everyone agrees that it kind of sucks, is too long, and could probably be eliminated completely and no one would care. The games still draw enough ratings for the networks to broadcast a couple every August and make other sports cry at the ratings they’re able to amass with mere exhibitions.

NBC, Fox, ESPN and CBS will each broadcast two preseason games, which NBC leading off showing the Giants face-off with the Bills in Canton, Ohio for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game. The rest of the networks get the equivalent of NFL Network’s Thursday Night Football. CBS gets the Raiders, ESPN gets the Jaguars and the Browns, while Fox gets two okay, if not wholly underwhelming match ups. Although announcing assignments aren’t released, we could get to see Jon Gruden call his brother Jay coaching the Redskins as they play the Browns on ESPN.

The only real interesting game? Saints-Colts on CBS, Aug. 23 in the third week of preseason. That could be a legitimate shot to watch Brees and Luck warmup for the season. Or both will be resting or not play all that much and it won’t be worth watching. The NFL preseason!
