For the last nine seasons, Steve Lyons was a part of Los Angeles Dodgers telecasts either on Fox Sports Prime Ticket or KCAL. But when the Dodgers switched homes this season to Time Warner Cable’s SportsNet LA, Lyons was out of a job.

But he wasn’t out of a job for long. The man who began his career with the Boston Red Sox back in 1985 and became a popular figure among its fans is back. This week, Lyons joins NESN as a pregame and postgame analyst for the regional sports network.

Known for having one of the crazier personalities in the game, Lyons was nicknamed “Psycho” for a reason. He is only one of three players to have played all nine field positions in a MLB game and of course, there’s the infamous moment in 1990 when he took off his pants after reaching first base.

And there was the game where he played “Tic Tac Toe” with Wally Joyner.

Lyons will be a rotating studio analyst along with former Red Sox players Dennis Eckersley, Jim Rice and Tim Wakefield. Lyons’ experience as a game analyst with the Dodgers through last season and with Fox Sports calling national games from 1996 through 2006 also could lead him to call games if needed.

During his time on Fox Saturday Baseball telecasts, Lyons was a loose cannon made some insensitive comments including one about Lou Piniella that got him fired, but since then, he’s had a relatively quiet career with the Dodgers.

Now that he’s joining the Red Sox broadcasts, Lyons is coming full circle as he returns to the team where he started and ended his playing career.
