As a Saints fan, it’s been a bit of a tumultuous season.  A 2-3 record is a disappointment heading into the bye week for a team that very clearly had Super Bowl aspirations.  The losses have been heartbreaking (two field goals on the last play and one SNF blowout in Dallas) and the wins haven’t been all that impressive.  That includes an overtime home victory against hapless Tampa Bay last Sunday.

The win over the Bucs was a rollercoaster ride chronicled by beat writer Larry Holder of the New Orleans Times-Picayune in his weekly film study.  (Both Holder and ESPN’s Mike Triplett have excellent detailed reviews that are required weekly readings for me.)  In the beginning of the column, Holder spotlighted All Pro guard Jahri Evans and his play as symbolic of the entire game.

Certain players shined, others not so much. It really depended on the specific play for someone such as perennial All-Pro guard Jahri Evans.

Buccaneers defensive tackle Gerald McCoy chewed up Evans for much of the game, and yet Evans steamrolled two Bucs defenders on touchdowns for Pierre Thomas and the game-winner for Khiry Robinson.

Evans is a perennial All Pro candidate and has been one of the best guards in football since his arrival in the league.  He didn’t take too kindly to Holder’s critique.

For his part, Holder had an ace in the hole…

Game, set, match – Larry Holder.

For future reference, if any player wants to challenge a media member over the Pulitzer, it’s best to check and make sure that reporter doesn’t already have one.
