If you follow Robert Griffin III on Twitter, or liked his Facebook page, I’ve got some bad news for you – he’s going radio silent for the rest of the season. Griffin’s been quiet on social media since Thanksgiving, and that silence is apparently going to be extending for the next two-plus weeks as well.

Griffin’s been someone who has subtly taken shots at his coaches and various other people on social media, and it looks like he finally realized that’s not going to gain him any more fans. Here are a couple of key quotes from ESPN.

“It just felt like, for me, anything I was saying, whether it was positive or negative, whether it was a positive retweet or anything, was getting twisted and turned against me and against this team,” he said. “I feel I can be free up here and talk to you guys, but sometimes things get twisted and turned and it creates a distraction for the team. I didn’t want that to happen.”

“I played a game and then I was out for seven weeks and there was still a ton of noise,” Griffin said. “Sometimes you don’t understand certain things and they don’t go the way you want them to go, but if I get criticized for retweeting about going to a charity event for a foundation, I mean what else can you do? So I decided to shut it down and not focus on it.

“It’s not that I was focused on it before. I felt like I would cut out a little bit of it for me. I’m sure there is still a lot of noise out there, but I don’t ever see it.”

Washington’s quarterback is really in a damned if you do, damned if you don’t situation. If he tries to be nice and use social media to promote charity events, he’ll get ripped for not burying his face in the playbook, or practicing, or resting, or whatever else you can come up with. If he talks about football, he gets trashed by fans who are irate that he’s the primary quarterback of a 3-11 team that has a realistic (though not probable) shot at getting the first overall pick in next spring’s NFL Draft.

Completely shutting it down is probably the best course of action for Griffin. Just walk away, man.
