Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long has the most unenviable job in the world right now as the chair and spokesman for the first ever College Football playoff committee. Long handled the explanations of the first rankings as best as could be expected, explaining the group’s decisions with logic, reason, and consistency. Long appears to be just the right person for the job. Most encouraging, the committee wasn’t predisposed to follow conventional narrative and preseason rankings and brand names – moving the likes of Alabama, Notre Dame, and Ohio State down while moving teams like Ole Miss and TCU up.
However, we all know that no matter what the committee did, there were going to be fans of all but four teams furious with him and his committee’s selections. Unfortunately for Long, he’s also on Twitter…. where fans of those teams can easily voice their displeasure personally to him. And as we all know, there is no more calm, rational, level-headed group like college football fans, right?
