The inaugural Kids Choice Sports Awards on Nickelodeon actually beat the ESPY’s this week. Granted, they were on different nights and did not go head-to-head, but in overall audience, the Kids Choice Sports Awards on Thursday night averaged an audience of 2.3 million viewers, edging the ESPY’s on Wednesday night which totaled 2.2 million.

The ESPY’s were also simulcast on ESPN2 which averaged another 400,000 viewers so overall, the combined audience did beat Nickelodeon 2.6 million to 2.3 million.

But in the 2-11 demographic, Nickelodeon easily beat the ESPY’s by a whopping 850%!! The program received a 3.8 rating and an average of 1.2 million viewers in ages 2-11.

Then again, ESPN is not trying to appeal to that young of a demographic with its awards show, but to see the new Kids Choice Awards beat the long-established ESPY’s is quite interesting.

Both awards shows had big names from the sports world and gave audiences what they were yearning for, except that parents might have kept their kids from watching Drake singing about “Side Pieces.”
