There’s still a small chunk of time left in 2014, but NBCSN is already chalking up the year as a victory. Thanks to the Sochi Olympics, the NHL, the Premier League, Fi and IndyCar, NBCSN is about to post its best year in network history. NBCSN’s total day audience is up 54% when compared to 2013. This crazy growth allows NBCSN to call themselves the fastest growing cable network around.

We’ve beaten the “live events = big ratings” drum several times in the past, but we’re going to do it once more. NBCSN has enjoyed a huge year mostly due to the Sochi Olympics which averaged 1.6 million viewers between 6am and 3pm, but a lot of the network’s growth occurred outside of the Olympics as well.

If you were to remove the Sochi Olympics from NBCSN’s total, the network would still be up 23% compared to 2013. NHL, Premier League and IndyCar coverage have all seen significant growth which propelled the network into a top destination for live sports.

Will NBCSN be able to build off of their successful 2014 and produce an impressive 2015? We’ll have to wait and see, but it’ll be interesting to see what kind of year NBCSN has without a major event such as the Winter Olympics propping up their numbers.
