April 2014 was a good month for NBCSN. Thanks to the NHL playoffs, another exciting group of games from the Premier League and four combined Formula One and IndyCar races, the network posted a record month of April. NBCSN averaged 165,000 Total Day viewers during the month of April, making it the most-watched month of April in their history. By comparison, April 2013 saw only 73,000 average Total Day viewers.

The good news for NBCSN doesn’t end there. Year-to-date viewership for the network is up 208% when compared to the same time frame from last year, but much of that is due to the Winter Olympics from Sochi.

As mentioned above, live events drove a big month for NBCSN. The first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs drove big numbers, with Columbus’ 2OT win over the Pittsburgh Penguins bringing in 850,000 viewers. Soccer played a big role too, with Chelsea’s 2-0 victory over Liverpool averaging 940,000 viewers – the third most-watched game on cable. Finally, the Bahrain Grand Prix delivered 594,000 viewers.

NBCSN may be riding a hot streak, but how will things look after the NHL and Premier League wrap up for the summer? Right now NBCSN may be slightly ahead of Fox Sports 1 for average viewership this year, but time will tell if they can maintain that advantage when hockey and soccer wrap up their seasons.
