Next Thursday at 7 PM, MLB Network will be airing Mr. Baseball, Bob Uecker, a documentary spotlighting the legendary Milwaukee Brewers broadcaster. The documentary provides a humorous and informative look at the life and career of Uecker, one of the most colorful people that the baseball world has ever seen.

Mr. Baseball features interviews from a wide range of baseball personalities, including Commissioner Bud Selig, Hank Aaron, Robin Yount, Rollie Fingers, Bob Costas, and Al Michaels. Uecker’s brief career as a player is reflected on, and the anecdotes about just how bad of a player he was are hilarious. The documentary then transitions into Uecker’s even more brief and less successful career as a scout, and Selig tells a story about Uecker that had me laughing hysterically.

The real meat and potatoes of the documentary discusses Uecker’s broadcasting career and the cross-platform stardom that developed out of that career. Uecker’s roles in Miller Lite commercials and Major League are obviously discussed, along with his frequent appearances with Johnny Carson on The Tonight Show.

There are only so many words I can use to describe this MLB Network feature. It’s a fantastic look at the career of a true broadcasting legend, much like the Hawk Harrelson documentary that was put together a year ago. Even if you’re not a Brewers fan, or you’re not too familiar with Uecker’s work, you’ll likely have a smile on your face during nearly this entire feature. I would really love it MLB Network created more of these documentaries, because they do an incredible job.
