Mike Evans, the first round draft pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and former Texas A&M star, has all the physical tools needed to be a stud wide receiver in the NFL for a long time.

What he clearly needs to work on are his interview skills.

Evans made an appearance with Jim Rome on his nationally syndicated CBS Sports Radio show and it… did… not… go… well.

The full interview lasted about 4 minutes and included a number of questions from Rome that were much longer than Evans’ answers.  It was an interview that made Gregg Popovich look loquacious.  What’s really amusing to listen to in this clip is Rome’s audible frustration with Evans as the interview progresses and then his burial of the rookie after the “conversation” mercifully ends.

Some of my favorite exchanges:

Rome: What about the conditioning, has that been much tougher?  Is that a step up?

Evans: Uhh not really, not really.

Rome: There’s toughness and there’s needing 3 IVs as a result of a 7 catch, 279 yard performance against Alabama last season.  A lot of fans remember that day, what do you remember about that game?

Evans: I remember we lost and it was a bad feeling.

Rome: Were you surprised to see him (Johnny Manziel) fall to #22 overall?

Evans: Yea, absolutely.

Rome: Do you think other teams are going to regret passing on him?

Evans: I think so.

If Mike Evans was trying to channel his inner Bill Belichick, then bravo.  If not then his agent has quite a bit of work to do in the media relations department.  Of course, there is one other possibility – Evans could just be trying to enact some karma for Rome’s most famous interview with an NFL player…
