This week represents a massive changing of the guard on YES Network.  After several years, the Yankees network has traded Mike Francesa's longtime WFAN radio simulcast for that of local rival Michael Kay on ESPN Radio New York.  Francesa's show laps Kay's in nearly every category – branding, ratings, buzz, potential blog posts thanks to media feuds, prank callers, and falling asleep, etc.  However, the move makes sense for YES in some regard.  Kay is already the face of the network as the Yankees television play by play man and his radio show likely carries a less expensive price tag.  And Kay probably won't have Alex Rodriguez in studio for an hour long fireside chat.

With his first television simulcast, Kay took the opportunity to take a shot at the sports pope by throwing his famous bottle of Diet Coke, the closest thing Francesa has had to a co-host since Chris Russo left, in the trash.

That act of bravado shocked Mongo Nation (who have their own delightful feud with Kay taking place on Twitter) and even got back to Francesa himself, who had a typically Mike Francesa response about the whole thing…
