The Awful Announcing staff always appreciates when an athlete or an announcer displays a sense of humor. For Landon Donovan, no one could blame him if he chose to pout for being cut from the US Men’s National World Cup team and perhaps give a shot or two to coach Jurgen Klinsmann while working for ESPN.

Instead, Donovan is poking fun at his situation as he stays home to play games for the LA Galaxy in MLS. He has shot an ad for his team in full USMNT uniform showing him answering phones in an empty Galaxy ticket office under the theme “Skip work. Watch the World Cup.”

It’s done quite well and for Donovan to have a sense of humor about the whole thing shows that he doesn’t take himself too seriously.
