Rising star Kevin Burkhardt is about to reach the top of the mountain. According to the New York Post, Burkhardt will leave New York’s SNY where he’s been a Mets field reporter and sometimes fill-in play-by-play announcer to join Fox Sports full-time. Burkhardt will leave at the end of the Mets season and then move to Los Angeles.
Burkhardt is expected to add college basketball to his current duties at Fox which currently include NFL play-by-play and MLB studio host. Fox Sports Executive Producer John Entz tells the New York Post: “… we’re going to be adding to his responsibilities next year in a big way.”
Last June, Burkhardt was added to the NFL on Fox lineup teaming with John Lynch and Erin Andrews. He made such a good impression on the higher-ups that Fox gave him a plum NFC Divisional Playoff assignment.
Now, Burkhardt has a three-year network contract in tow and is apparently on a fast track to become one of Fox Sports’ biggest stars.
He tells the New York Post: “Obviously, the job, for me, is incredible. I couldn’t have scripted it any better if I tried. Sometimes in life you’re looking forward to something completely different. It has been quite a couple of years.”
It’s a long journey from when Burkhardt was selling cars in New Jersey hoping for that big break. Now he’s gone national and soon to be full-time.
” .. I can’t even believe it. It’s totally nuts,” said Burkhardt. Believe it, Kevin. You’re in the big-time.
