Legendary pro wrestling announcer Jim Ross will return to the broadcast booth and call his first-ever MMA show on October 3rd, and his broadcast partner is a familiar face to UFC fans – disgraced former Fox analyst Chael Sonnen.

Ross and Sonnen will team up to call the Battleground MMA show from Tulsa, Oklahoma, which will air on pay-per-view. The show’s main draw is an eight-man welterweight tournament featuring several UFC veterans, and the main event features the son of UFC Hall of Famer (and Dancing with the Stars competitor) Randy Couture, Ryan.

Since leaving WWE a year ago, Ross has written columns for Fox’s website, has a successful podcast, and has called boxing for Fox, but this will be his first entry into the MMA world. Sonnen was an excellent analyst for Fox, but his two failed steroid tests in quick succession led to his termination from the network.

Putting the two of them together will be interesting, and it was a shrewd move by Battleground MMA . People who had never heard of their organization are now aware of them, and could check out their show next month. I really hope Battleground makes some clips of the show available so we can hear Ross in all of his glory – I could go for a good old-fashioned slobberknocker.
