I know very little about horse racing, but I imagine one of the pleasures of it must be how anyone — with the right amount of money and the right people around you — can become an effective horse owner and become a part of that world. It all seems quite democratic.

The current number one ranked thoroughbred in America this week is called Shared Belief. Why are we reporting on this news? Because Shared Belief is owned by sports talk lifer Jim Rome.

The same site that gave us Shared Belief’s top ranking also gave us a little info about Rome’s company, Jungle Racing LLC (because of course).

Jungle Racing, the racing operation of sports personality Jim Rome that raced two-time Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint winner Mizdirection, owns champion Shared Belief in partnership with Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, George Todaro, Alex Solis II and Jason Litt.

The group has made over a million dollars this year, and the horse is clearly racing well. Good for Jim Rome, I suppose. The man is clearly using his considerable means to live out a dream.
