Tuesday night, an E:60 feature was aired on ESPN detailing Qatar’s preparations for the World Cup in 2022. The feature is chilling, detailing the numerous deaths of migrant workers brought in to construct the infrastructure for the World Cup that is still eight years away. The workers live in unsanitary conditions, work in extreme heat, and hundreds have died since coming to Qatar. The workers come to the country with the hope of making money to provide for their families back home, and many end up leaving their wives as widows and their children without fathers.

FIFA president Sepp Blatter’s proclamation that the World Cup will be held in Qatar in 2022 is steeped in controversy given the body count that has already accumulated. This situation is extremely ugly, and we’re a long way from seeing the conclusion of it.
